A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO
IMPLEMENT A "BACK TO BASICS" PROGRAM, TO INCLUDE A
COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION OF THE STATE OF THE STREETS IN MIAMI
BEACH AND TO PRESENT THE KEY FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
ARISING OUT OF SUCH EVALUATION AT THE APRIL 23, 2025 CITY
COMMISSION MEETING.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is committed to maintaining and improving its
infrastructure to ensure the safety, accessibility, and quality of life for residents, businesses, and
visitors; and
WHEREAS, the condition of city streets plays a critical role in the daily experience of the
community, affecting not only the aesthetic appeal of the city but also the safety of all who travel
within the city limits; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission recognize the importance of regularly
assessing the state of the streets in Miami Beach to ensure that necessary repairs, upgrades,
and improvements are prioritized and addressed in a timely and effective manner; and
WHEREAS, the Administration is encouraged to evaluate the current state of the streets,
including conditions such as pavement quality, traffic flow, signage, and overall infrastructure,
and to identify areas that may require immediate attention, long-term planning, or additional
resources; and
WHEREAS, the evaluation should expressly address the following criteria:
• Date of last paving
• Date of next schedules paving
• Current condition of the street
• Whether the street needs to be elevated
• Whether the street is included in a planned resiliency/neighborhood improvement
project and whether such project is funded; and
WHEREAS, the evaluation should include a scoring system to differentiate the condition
of each street; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to review the findings of this evaluation and
consider any recommendations for improvements, repairs, or future initiatives aimed at
enhancing the quality and safety of the streets in Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires that the Administration include in its report a
summary of the existing scheduled maintenance plan for streets throughout the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the
Administration to implement a "Back to Basics" program, to include a comprehensive evaluation
of the state of the streets in Miami Beach, taking into account the criteria identified in this
Resolution and including an assessment of current conditions utilizing a scoring system, and to
present the key findings and recommendations arising out of such evaluation, as well as a
summary of the existing scheduled maintenance plan for streets throughout the City, at the City
Commission meeting scheduled for April 23, 2025.
