A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,FLORIDA,DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION
TO IDENTIFY AND ALLOCATE $250,000 IN FUNDING TO ENABLE THE
CITY TO APPLY FOR A GRANT FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO
FUND THE MIAMI BEACH PEDESTRIAN SAFETY AND PIER PARK
STREET IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT TO BEAUTIFY AND SECURE THE
WALKWAYS AND STREET ENDS AT PIER PARK AND TO ENHANCE
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY,TRAFFIC FLOW AND INFRASTRUCTURE IN
CONJUNCTION WITH THE REVITALIZATION OF THE PARK IN
ALIGNMENT WITH THE CITY'S ONGOING GOALS OF ENHANCING
SAFETY,ACCESSIBILITY,AND AESTHETICS IN THIS IMPORTANT
PUBLIC SPACE;AND FURTHER,WAIVING,BY 517TH VOTE,THE
FINANCE AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCY COMMITTEE REVIEW
REQUIREMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 2-14(D)(1)A)OF
THE CITY CODE.
WHEREAS,the City of Miami Beach is committed to enhancing the public spaces
and infrastructure that contribute to the overall quality of life for residents and visitors;
and
WHEREAS,Pier Park is a key asset within the City,serving as a central public
space that connects the park,beach,and surrounding neighborhoods,providing
recreational and social benefits for the community;and
WHEREAS,the City desires to beautify and secure the walkways and street ends
at Pier Park,improving aesthetics and safety while enhancing the overall experience for
pedestrians and visitors to the area;and
WHEREAS,a revitalization project to enhance the walkways and street ends will
improve pedestrian traffic flow,reduce congestion,and increase connectivity between
Pier Park,the beach,and surrounding areas,contributing to the overall vibrancy and
accessibility of the neighborhood;and
WHEREAS,the City intends to apply for a grant in the amount of $250,000 from
the State of Florida to fund this project,which will significantly improve the safety,
accessibility,and aesthetics of the Pier Park area;and
WHEREAS,in order to submit a successful grant application,it is necessary to
secure funding for the project's planning,design,and construction in an amount not less
than the grant amount to be requested from the State.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,FLORIDA,that the Administration is
hereby directed to identify and allocate $250,000 in funding to enable the City to apply
for a grant from the State of Florida to fund the Miami Beach Pedestrian Safety and Pier
Park Street Improvements Project to beautify and secure the walkways and street ends
at Pier Park,and to enhance pedestrian safety,traffic flow and infrastructure in
conjunction with the revitalization of the Park in alignment with the City's ongoing goals
of enhancing safety,accessibility,and aesthetics in this important public space;and
further;waiving,by 517th vote,the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee review
requirement in accordance with section 2-14(d)1)(a)of the City Code.
