A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,FLORIDA,URGING THE FEDERAL
GOVERNMENT TO FIND A PERMANENT SOLUTION FOR LAW-
ABIDING VENEZUELANS REFUGED IN MIAMI BEACH AND
ELSEWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES,ENSURING THEIR SAFETY,
SECURITY,AND ABILITY TO CONTINUE CONTRIBUTING TO THEIR
COMMUNITIES,AND FURTHER,DIRECTING THE CLERK TO
TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO CALEB VITELLO,
ACTING DIRECTOR OF IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS
ENFORCEMENT (ICE),SENATOR ASHLEY MOODY,SENATOR RICK
SCOTT AND CONGRESSWOMAN MARIA ELVIRA SALAZAR.
WHEREAS,the City of Miami Beach is home to a significant Venezuelan
community that has contributed to the economic and cultural vibrancy of the City;and
WHEREAS,the Venezuelan people have been central to the economic growth
and diversity of Miami Beach,with many Venezuelan immigrants establishing
businesses,enriching the cultural fabric of the community,and playing a key role in the
City's development;and
WHEREAS,the Venezuelan people have fled their native country to escape the
brutal and oppressive regime led by Nicolas Maduro,seeking refuge in the United States
to protect themselves and their families from persecution,political imprisonment,torture,
and death;and
WHEREAS,law-abiding Venezuelans have embraced the values of family,
freedom,and democracy,and seek to continue contributing to the American way of life
by providing for their families and supporting the community;and
WHEREAS,the end of Temporary Protected Status (TPS)for Venezuelan
immigrants may result in the mass deportation of Venezuelans,placing them at grave
risk of being sent back to a regime that has committed atrocities against its own citizens;
and
WHEREAS,the City of Miami Beach Mayor and Commission strongly support the
protection of Venezuelan immigrants who have made Miami Beach their home and have
become valued members of the community;and
WHEREAS,the City of Miami Beach calls upon the federal government to find a
permanent legal solution that will allow Venezuelans who have sought refuge in the
United States to continue living and working without fear of deportation,while contributing
to the betterment of American society.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,FLORIDA,that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby urge the federal government to find a permanent solution for law-
abiding Venezuelans who have sought refuge in Miami Beach and across the United
States,ensuring their safety,security,and ability to continue contributing to their
communities,and further,direct the City Clerk to transmit a copy of this Resolution to
Caleb Vitello,Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),Senator
Ashley Moody,Senator Rick Scott and Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar.
