A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,FLORIDA,APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF DONATIONS FROM THE BARRY S.STERNLICHT FOUNDATION AND BARRY AND MIMI STERNLICHT FOUNDATION,IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $20,000,FOR THE CITY'S 2025 PROGRAMMING FOR COMMUNITY SENIORS;FURTHER,AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPROPRIATE SUCH DONATED FUNDS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS OF THE DONOR'S GIFT,AS SPECIFIED IN THIS RESOLUTION. WHEREAS,for decades,the City of Miami Beach has had a significant population of seniors and elderly residents who have chosen to retire in this beautiful tropical paradise;and WHEREAS,as Mahatma Ghandi said,"the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members,"a group in which seniors and the elderly are certainly included;and WHEREAS,the City of Miami Beach invests significantly in providing services for seniors in order to maintain and improve their quality of life,including meal services,health and wellness programs,and activities to strengthen their connections to each other as a community;and WHEREAS,Miami Beach resident Barry Sternlicht shares the City's passion for supporting seniors,and wishes to donate $10,000.00 from the Barry S.Sternlicht Foundation and $10,000.00 from the Barry and Mimi Sternlicht Foundation,with the express request that the funds be used for senior programming and activities;and WHEREAS,the Mayor and City Commission,with gratitude,desire to accept the donation from the Sternlicht Foundations,and further approve the expenditure of the donated funds in accordance with the express request of the donors. NOW,THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,FLORIDA,that the Mayor and City Commission hereby approve and authorize the acceptance of donations from the Barry S. Sternlicht Foundation,and Barry and Mimi Sternlicht Foundation,in the total amount of $20,000, for the City's 2025 programming for community seniors;and further,authorize the City Manager to appropriate such donated funds in accordance with the terms of the Donor's gift,as specified in this Resolution.
