Update on implementation of sidewalks and lighting improvements on the G.O.
Bond Ocean Drive Corridor Improvements Project.
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to provide an update to the Mayor and City
Commission (City Commission) on the progress of implementing lighting and sidewalk
improvements (Infrastructure Improvements) as part of the voter-approved General Obligation
Bond (GOB) Ocean Drive Corridor Improvements Project.
On October 30, 2024, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2024-33337 directing the
Administration to take the next steps to implement lighting and sidewalk improvements as part of
the GOB Ocean Drive Corridor Improvements Project (Ocean Drive Project). The Ocean Drive
Project is currently in due diligence and design phase, completing the required traffic studies. The
Ocean Drive Project's consultant, Calvin, Giordano & Associates (CGA) is scheduled to present
preliminary findings to the Commission in April 2025.
In response to the resolution passed on October 30, 2024, CGA prepared an analysis of potential
improvements which could be incorporated ahead of the overall project, but which would later be
incorporated into the final project.
On March 6, 2025, at a Sunshine Community Meeting held at the Art Deco Welcome Center (1001
Ocean Drive), CGA presented recommendations (Exhibit A) regarding the implementation of
lighting and sidewalk improvements along the west side of Ocean Drive. Responses and feedback
from those in attendance was varied, and a consensus was not reached.
After the presentation, an opinion survey was created to gather feedback on the options discussed
during the March 6 meeting. The survey will remain open until March 31, 2025, and has been
distributed through multiple citywide platforms, including a dedicated email blast, social media,
Nextdoor, e-briefs and sent directly to neighborhood association contacts.
