A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO REVIEW
THE CITY'S ON-STREET PARKING SIGNAGE, INCLUDING SIGNAGE IN
FREIGHT LOADING ZONES, RESIDENTIAL PARKING ZONES, AND OTHER ON-
STREET PARKING AREAS, IN ORDER TO DETERMINE HOW SUCH SIGNAGE
COULD BE IMPROVED TO PROVIDE INFORMATION IN A CLEARER, MORE
READILY UNDERSTANDABLE MANNER; AND FURTHER, DIRECTING THE
ADMINISTRATION TO REVIEW PARKING SIGNAGE USED IN OTHER
MUNICIPALITIES AROUND THE COUNTRY TO IDENTIFY THE BEST EXAMPLES
AND VERBIAGE FOR THE CITY TO POTENTIALLY EMULATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach maintains various on-street parking areas, including
freight loading zones, residential parking zones, and other designated parking areas; and
WHEREAS, clear and easy-to-understand parking signage is essential for reducing
confusion for residents and visitors, for ensuring compliance with parking regulations, and improving
overall traffic flow and safety; and
WHEREAS, residents, business owners, and visitors have raised concerns regarding the
clarity of existing parking signage, including the potential for misinterpretation or difficulty in
understanding parking restrictions and allowances; and
WHEREAS, municipalities across the nation have adopted best practices in parking signage
design and verbiage to enhance clarity and ease of comprehension; and
WHEREAS, a review of the City's parking signage, in conjunction with a study of signage
used in other municipalities, will help identify opportunities to improve messaging, reduce confusion,
and enhance the overall user experience; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to direct the Administration to conduct
such a review to potentially improve the clarity and effectiveness of on-street parking signage
throughout the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida, hereby direct the City Administration to review the City's on-street parking
signage, including signage in freight loading zones, residential parking zones, and other on-street
parking areas, in order to determine how such signage could be improved to provide information in
a clearer, more readily understandable manner; and further, directing the Administration to review
parking signage used in other municipalities around the country to identify the best examples and
verbiage for the City to potentially emulate.
