A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ENCOURAGING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATION, WHEN PLANNING ITS UPCOMING ARTWORK
INSTALLATIONS, TO CONSIDER SOCCER-THEMED WORKS OF ART
IN SUPPORT OF THE FIFA WORLD CUP 2026 COMING TO SOUTH
FLORIDA, AND IN ANTICIPATION OF THE CITY HOSTING A LAUNCH
WEEKEND KICKOFF CONCERT AND BEING DESIGNATED AS AN
OFFICIAL WATCH PARTY LOCATION, AMONG OTHER PUBLIC
BENEFITS, FOR THE FIFA WORLD CUP 2026.
WHEREAS, the FIFA World Cup is the world's most prestigious and widely viewed
soccer tournament, uniting fans from across the globe in a celebration of sport, culture,
and international camaraderie; and
WHEREAS, South Florida has been selected as one of the host regions for the
FIFA World Cup 2026, with seven (7) matches scheduled to take place at Hard Rock
Stadium in Miami Gardens, bringing significant economic, cultural, and tourism benefits
to the region; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is poised to play a key role in the festivities
surrounding the FIFA World Cup 2026, including hosting a high-profile launch weekend
Kickoff Concert and being designated as an official Watch Party location, allowing
residents and visitors to experience the excitement of the tournament in a vibrant,
community-oriented setting; and
WHEREAS, public art plays a crucial role in enhancing the City's urban landscape,
fostering civic pride, and providing engaging, dynamic experiences for residents and
tourists alike; and
WHEREAS, incorporating soccer-themed artwork into the City's upcoming art
installations would serve as a powerful tribute to the FIFA World Cup 2026, celebrating
the sport's global influence and the City's role in the event while leaving a lasting cultural
legacy; and
WHEREAS, soccer-themed works of art could take many forms, including
sculptures, murals, interactive installations, and digital projections, and could be
strategically placed in high-traffic areas such as Lincoln Road, Ocean Drive, Lummus
Park, and other public spaces to maximize visibility and engagement; and
WHEREAS, aligning Miami Beach's public art initiatives with the excitement and
energy of the FIFA World Cup 2026 would further elevate the City's reputation as a
premier destination for arts, culture, and international events.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, hereby encourage the City
Administration, when planning its upcoming artwork installations, to consider soccer-
themed works of art in support of the FIFA World Cup 2026 coming to South Florida, and
in anticipation of the City hosting a launch weekend kickoff concert and being designated
as an official watch party location, among other public benefits, for the FIFA World Cup
2026.
