The City Commission unanimously approved Resolution No. 2025- 33490(Sponsored by Commissioner Laura Dominguez), requesting that the City of Miami Beach's Regional Postmaster take proactive action to maintain and upkeep the United States Postal Service Offices located at 445 West 40 Street and 1661 West Avenue, and their surrounding grounds, with special attention to the landscaping and the alleys, to ensure that the properties are kept clean and properly maintained. See attached letter received by the City Clerk on March 18, 2025, from Sara Poynor, Acting Manager of USPS Government Relations Correspondence, in response to this matter. I understand your interest in this matter. Please be assured that the U.S. Postal Service shares your interest in keeping postal facilities maintained to standards that reflect our pride in being an integral part of the community. We contacted local postal officials, who assured us that the issues raised in your correspondence have been addressed: however, there is currently construction in the parking lot of the facility located at 1661 West Avenue, which is presenting some challenges for customers when parking and entering and exiting the building. WHEREAS, Post offices and delivery units are the United States Postal Service's ("USPS")front door to the public; and WHEREAS, people visit them to buy stamps, drop off mail, or pick up a package, and they're also the workplace for postmasters, clerks, and carriers, which is why it is important that the USPS facilities and surrounding grounds are clean, safe, and in good condition; and WHEREAS, concerns have been raised about the maintenance and upkeep of the USPS property at 445 West 40th Street (the "Property"), including its landscaping, adjacent alleys, and overall cleanliness; and WHEREAS, at its January 9 meeting, the Mayor's 41st Street Blue Ribbon Advisory Committee passed a unanimous motion requesting for the City Commission to request the regional Postmaster to maintain and upkeep the Property, specifically the landscaping and alleys; and WHEREAS, the proper maintenance of this Property aligns with the shared goals of promoting a clean, welcoming, and aesthetically pleasing environment for residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, in addition, there have been concerns regarding the state and upkeep of the Post Office located at 1661 West Avenue; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission respectfully request that the local Postmaster take the appropriate and proactive action to ensure the proper maintenance and upkeep of the USPS offices located at 445 West 40th Street and 1661 West Avenue, with particular attention to the landscaping, alleys, and overall cleanliness of the properties.
