95-21680 Reso Resolution No. 95-21680 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE DONATION OF A FIRE RESCUE VAN TO THE CITY OF SANTA MARTA, COLOMBIA, AS REQUESTED BY THE CITY OF SANTA MARTA THROUGH THE SISTER CITIES COMMITTEE WHEREAS, the City of Santa Marta, Colombia, is a Sister City to the City of Miami Beach, Florida, and in the interest of recognizing mutual needs, has requested a donation of a fire rescue van to benefit the residents and visitors of Santa Marta by providing emergency service; and WHEREAS, the Administration has a surplus fire rescue van which would meet the needs of the people of Santa Marta; and WHEREAS, no funds, fees, or expenses are required by the City of Miami Beach to facilitate this donation; and WHEREAS, Santa Marta, in a letter written by Edgardo Vives Campo, Mayor of Santa Marta, has agreed to accept responsibility for all expenses related to the transfer, delivery, and any other expenses related to this donation; and WHEREAS, the Sister Cities Committee has unanimously supported the donation of this surplus property to the City of Santa Marta. NOW THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS : Section 1 : That the City of Miami Beach donate the 1987 Ford fire rescue van, No. 17-7, to the City of Santa Marta, Colombia. Section 2 : That the City obtain a release of any and all liability and a letter from the governing body of Santa Marta agreeing to recognize and accept responsibility of the property in its donated "as is condition" and pay all expenses connected with this transfer. BACKGROUND: The City of Santa Marta, Colombia, Sister City of Miami Beach, requested, via the Sister City Committee chaired by Bruce Singer, in a letter written by Edgardo Vives Campo, Mayor of Santa Marta, to Mayor Seymour Gelber, the donation of a fire rescue van to fulfill the needs of the citizens of Santa Marta, Colombia. The Administration reviewed its inventory of out of service vehicles and found a 1987 Ford Rescue Van, No. 17-7, meeting the description of the vehicle requested. The vehicle was set aside pending City Commission approval . A similar 1984 Fire Rescue Van was sold at auction on Saturday, January 24 , 1994 , for $750 . 00 . Mr. Joseph Pinon, Assistant City Manager, has obtained a commitment from Mayor Edgardo Vives Campo, that the City of Santa Marta will accept said vehicle in "as is condition" and all expenses related to repairs, freight, delivery, taxes, export fees, and any other expenses related to said vehicle will be the sole responsibility of the City of Santa Marta, Colombia. CONCLUSION: This Resolution should be approved authorizing the donation of the 1987 Fire Rescue Van, No. 17-7, to the City of Santa Marta, Colombia.
