95-21827 Reso RESOLUTION NO. 95-21827 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING AND URGING THE ADMINISTRATION TO REQUEST THE FLORIDA INLAND NAVIGATION DISTRICT AND THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TO POST MANATEE PROTECTION SPEED ZONE SIGNS AT ALL LOCATIONS SPECIFIED IN EXHIBIT "A" ATTACHED HERETO. WHEREAS, the waterways in and around the City of Miami Beach are designated manatee protection speed zones; and WHEREAS, manatee protection speed zones require that boaters maintain certain slow speeds while navigating in these zones; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Marine Patrol ("Marine Patrol") is having difficulty in enforcing the speed limit in these zones either because boaters are unaware of the existing year-round speed zones or existing reminder signs are insufficient; and WHEREAS, the Marine Patrol, therefore, sees a need to post manatee protection speed zone signs at the locations identified in Exhibit "A" attached hereto; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 374.977, Florida Statutes, the Florida Inland Navigation District and the Department of Environmental Protection are jointly responsible for the posting, maintaining and selection of location of manatee protection speed zone signs. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission herein authorize and urge the Administration to request the Florida Inland Navigation District and the Department of Environmental Protection to post manatee protection speed zone signs at all locations specified in Exhibit "A" attached hereto.
