As CEO, and with the support of my Board, we are proud to bring to the screen stories unseen anywhere else in South Florida. However, we do recognize and understand that the highly anticipated screening of No Other Land has led to divisiveness within our community. As I mentioned in the Miami New Times article, the selection of this film has been driven by our commitment to offering the community an opportunity to experience Oscar-nominated and award-season films firsthand. No Other Land fits that criteria. Due to the concerns of antisemitic rhetoric, we have decided to withdraw the film from our programming. We have a long history of showcasing and supporting Jewish films including a close and longstanding partnership with the Miami Jewish Film Festival. At present we are hosting a yearlong Holocaust film series. Our intentions are always to bring our community together for meaningful dialogue around cinema. This film has exposed a rift which makes us unable to do the thing we’ve always sought out to do which is to foster thoughtful conversations about cinematic works. The Israel-Palestine conflict is a complex, long-standing issue shaped by decades of history, politics, and hurt. We believe that it can't be and will not be solved by just watching or not watching a film. The divisions are felt not only in the region but also globally, including in our own country and community, and the discourse around it reflects this tender reality. In light of this, all scheduled screenings of the film have been canceled. Sincerely, Vivian Marthell CEO/CCO O Cinema
