LTC 157-2025 Update on the Meloy Channel Waterway Markers ProjectMIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER LTC# 157-2025 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Honorable Mayor Steven Meiner and Members of the City Commission Eric Carpenter, City Manager � � April 15, 2025 Update on the Meloy Channel Waterway Markers Project The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to provide an update on the upcoming waterway markers project along Meloy Channel. The installation of regulatory waterway markers is vital for ensuring the safety of those who use the ,surrounding waterways, as well as for enhancing the quality of life for residents in the area. The increased deployment of channel markers, slow speed zones, and other markers play a key role in protecting marine life, including seagrasses and manatees. The new signage will also assist Marine Patrol in their efforts to ensure compliance with maritime regulations. The project to install new regulatory waterway markers has received all necessary regulatory approvals and will support the establishment of a "Slow Speed, Minimum Wake Zone" along the southern section of Meloy Channel near Government Cut. This initiative is in alignment with Ordinance No. 2020-4363, Appendix 3 (Attachment A). The project will be led by Dock and Marine Construction Corp. Existng l.JJllted Sooy •The work is expected to commence the week of April 7 and continue for approximately two (2)weeks. The contractor will work Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 5pm. Residents and visitors can expect the following during this time: •Construction equipment such as a tugboat, barge, crane, pile driving equipment, and workers will be present in the waterway. •Moderate levels of construction noise are expected during the day. •Vessel access will be maintained; however, some sections of the work area may be temporarily obstructed during pile-driving activities.
