Update on the Meloy Channel Waterway Markers Project
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to provide an update on the upcoming waterway
markers project along Meloy Channel. The installation of regulatory waterway markers is vital for
ensuring the safety of those who use the ,surrounding waterways, as well as for enhancing the
quality of life for residents in the area. The
increased deployment of channel
markers, slow speed zones, and other
markers play a key role in protecting
marine life, including seagrasses and
manatees. The new signage will also
assist Marine Patrol in their efforts to
ensure compliance with maritime
regulations.
The project to install new regulatory
waterway markers has received all
necessary regulatory approvals and will
support the establishment of a "Slow
Speed, Minimum Wake Zone" along the
southern section of Meloy Channel near
Government Cut. This initiative is in
alignment with Ordinance No. 2020-4363,
Appendix 3 (Attachment A).
The project will be led by Dock and Marine
Construction Corp. The work includes the
installation of five (5) waterway markers
consisting of signs and wood piling and the
associated hardware. 3 25.7699
