A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, AUTHORIZING A ONE-TIME
GRANT OF $5,000.00 TO THE CENTER FOR FOLK AND
COMMUNITY ART TO SPONSOR ITS ALIVE ON SOUTH BEACH
AND IT'S JUST A CONVERSATION PROGRAMMING, WITH
MONIES TO BE DRAWN FROM AVAILABLE FUNDS
PREVIOUSLY APPROPRIATED BY THE CITY TO AID
CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS IMPACTED BY THE STATE OF
FLORIDA'S REDUCTION IN FUNDING FOR ARTS AND
CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS.
WHEREAS, the Center for Folk and Community Art (CFCA) is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization in operation since 1993; and
WHEREAS, CFCA produces hvo video shows that are worthy of City sponsorship;
and
WHEREAS, the first, "Alive on South Beach", is an episodic man-on-the-street
style video show that takes viewers behind the scenes of the vibrant Miami Beach culture
and events, providing an insider's look at the celebrations, celebrities, and locals who
make Miami Beach an International tourist destination. To date, the show has reached
over three million people through the Syndicated News Network (SNN.bz) and
AliveonSouthBeach.com internet platforms; and
WHEREAS, the second, "IYs Just a Conversation", is a Zoom Conversation video
show on which actors, artists, authors and others who have been successful in their
respective creative professions talk about their work to inspire others; and
WHEREAS, CFCA previously was awarded $25,000 from the Florida State
Department of Cultural Affairs, Arts in Education, for its 2025 programming. However,
cultural programming grants were reduced in the State budget. Therefore, sponsorship
funding in the amount of $5,000 by the City of Miami Beach would be invaluable in
ensuring that CFCA can continue its work, leverage additional funding from other sources,
and further promote the Miami Beach brand on the global stage; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach previously allocated funding to assist those
Miami Beach cultural institutions impacted by State budget cuts and $17,848.64 remains
available from the total allocated amount for this purpose; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to award a one-time grant of
$5,000.00 to CFCA to sponsor its Alive on South Beach and IYs Just a Conversation
programming, with monies to be drawn from available funds previously appropriated by
the City to aid cultural institutions impacted by the State of Florida's reduction in funding
for arts and cultural organizations .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby authorize a one-time grant of $5,000.00 to the Center for Folk and
Community Art to sponsor its Alive on South Beach and IYs Just a Conversation
programming, with monies to be drawn from available funds previously appropriated by
the City to aid cultural institutions impacted by the State of Florida's reduction in funding
for arts and cultural organizations.
