Z02533646 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO ISSUE REFUNDS TO RESIDENTS WHO WERE CHARGED THE $30 FLAT RATE FOR PARKING AT CERTAIN CITY-OWNED SURFACE LOTS AND PARKING GARAGES UPON PROVIDING DOCUMENTATION OF AMOUNT PAID AND PROOF OF RESIDENCY, WITH SUCH REFUNDS TO BE IN THE AMOUNT OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FLAT RATE APPLICABLE TO NON- RESIDENTS AND THE REGULAR RESIDENT RATE. WHEREAS, as part of its spring break 2025 safety measures, the City of Miami Beach implemented a flat rate of$30 for parking at City-owned surface lots south of 23rd Street, as well as at certain City parking garages; and WHEREAS, the City's notifications to residents indicated that residents with proof of residency would be charged the regular resident parking rates; and WHEREAS, the parking payment applications used by the City to manage parking charges are unable to verify residency unless a resident is registered with the City's residential parking program; and WHEREAS, as a result, some residents who were not registered in the City's residential parking program were incorrectly charged the $30 flat rate, which was intended for non-residents; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wish to ensure that residents who were mistakenly charged the non-resident rate be refunded the difference between the $30 flat rate and the regular resident parking rate. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the Administration to issue refunds to residents who were charged the $30 flat rate for parking at certain City-owned surface lots and parking garages upon providing documentation of the amount paid and proof of residency, with such refunds to be in the amount of the difference between the $30 flat rate charged to non-residents and the regular resident parking rate that would have applied. FISCAL IMPACT STATEMENT The refunds to be issued pursuant to this measure will be in the amount of the difference between ihe flat rate applicable to non-residents and the regular resident rate for parking at certain city- owned surface bts and parking garages.
