Resolution 2025-33627 I RESOLUTION NO. 202533627 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO WORK WITH THE MIAMI BEACH COMMISSION FOR WOMEN TO BRING BACK THE ANNUAL WOMEN'S CONFERENCE FOR WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH 2O26, AN INITIATIVE ORIGINALLY CREATED BY FORMER MAYOR MATTI BOWER; AND REFERRING A REQUEST TO THE MIAMI BEACH COMMISSION FOR WOMEN TO DISCUSS AND RECOMMEND POTENTIAL CONFERENCE TOPICS AND GUEST SPEAKERS. WHEREAS, during her first year in office, former Mayor Matti Herrera Bower established the City's Women's Conference as an annual celebration of women's leadership, contributions, and history; and WHEREAS, the Women's Conference became a hallmark event held during National Women's History Month each March, and continued throughout Mayor Bower's tenure; and WHEREAS, the Conference featured dynamic and influential women speakers, a luncheon showcasing the artistry and talent of extraordinary women chefs, and programming honoring outstanding women who shaped Florida's history; and WHEREAS, reinstating this impactful tradition would reflect the City's ongoing commitment to gender equity, civic engagement, and the celebration of women's achievements across all sectors; and WHEREAS, the advisory Miami Beach Commission for Women is uniquely positioned to help reimagine and plan the Conference, drawing on its collective expertise and community connections, in light of their involvement with the annual Women's Exhibit during National Women's History Month; and WHEREAS, as follows, the Mayor and City Commission wish to direct the City Administration to collaborate with the Miami Beach Commission for Women to bring back the annual Women's Conference, to be held during National Women's History Month in March 2026; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission further refer a request to the Miami Beach Commission for Women to discuss and recommend potential topics, programming elements, and invited guests for the 2026 Women's Conference. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the City Administration to work with the Miami Beach Commission for Women to bring back the annual Women's Conference for Women's History Month 2026, an initiative originally created by former Mayor Matti Bower; and refer a request to the Miami Beach Commission for Women to discuss and recommend potential conference topics and guest speakers.
