A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE WAIVER OF
SQUARE FOOTAGE FEES, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED THREE
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($3,000.00�, FOR THE 2025 WORLD OPEN
FOONOLLEY EVENT, TO BE HELD IN THE 72ND STREET SPOIL
BEACH BOWL, FROM MAY 23-25, 2025.
WHEREAS, the 2025 World Open Footvolley (the "EvenY'), part of the Pro
Footvolley Tour, is scheduled to take place in the 72nd Street Spoil Beach Bowl, from
May 23 through May 25, 2025; and
WHEREAS, the World Open Footvolley is a premier international competition that
will feature top-ranked teams representing nations including Team USA, Brazil,
Argentina, and Paraguay, among others; and
WHEREAS, since the sport's inception in Brazil, footvolley has spread and gained
popularity internationally, including in the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia,
and Oceania; and
WHEREAS, the Event would strengthen the economic, tourism, cultural, and
diplomatic ties the City of Miami Beach has with each participating country; and
WHEREAS, the Event aims to further elevate the sport of footvolley and serve as
a catalyst for its recognition as a demonstration sport at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic
Games; and
WHEREAS,the Event will be broadcast nationally on belN Sports and Root Sports
Northwest, and streamed globally, providing significant visibility and promotional value to
the City of Miami Beach as a host city for inlernational sporting events; and
WHEREAS, Sergio Menezes, a University of Miami MBA graduate, a long-time
Miami Beach resident, and Presidentofthe Pro FootvolleyTour, competed forTeam USA
in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and continues to play a pivotal role in the promotion and
professionalization of the sport; and
WHEREAS, the 2025 World Open Footvolley is one of eight stops on the Pro
Footvolley Tour, which includes events throughout South Florida, the Mid-Atlantic, and
the West Coast, and this upcoming event will mark the sixth Pro Footvolley Tour stop held
in Miami Beach since 2009; and
WHEREAS, on June 24, 2024, the Mayor and City Commission adopted
Resolution No. 202433113, accepting the recommendation of the Tourism and Culture
Department for the approval of a sponsorship in a recommended award amount of
$14,250.00 for the 2025 Event; and
WHEREAS, the Event will offer free General Admission and discounted VIP
seating options for Miami Beach residents; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to provide additional support for this
international event by approving a waiver of square footage fees in an amount not to
exceed $3,000.00, in recognition of the cultural, recreational, and economic benefits that
the event brings to the City and its residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby approve the waiver of square footage fees, in an amount not to
exceed Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00), for the 2025 World Open Footvolley Event,
to be in the 72nd Street Spoil Beach Bowl, from May 23-25, 2025.
