A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO
EXPLORE AFFORDABLE, HEALTHIER, AND, IF FEASIBLE, LOCALLY-SOURCED
MEAL OPTIONS FOR STUDENTS.
WHEREAS,access to nutritious meals is essential forihe physical heatth,arademic perforcnance,and
overall well-being of students;and
WHEREAS, all students enrolled in Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) are eligible to
receive breakfast and lunch at no charge,in accordance with school board policy and the Na6onal School Lunch
and School Breakfast Programs;and
WHEREAS, this program ensures that every student has access to daily meals, regardless of
household income,and supports effoRs to reduce food insecunty throughout the county;and
WHEREAS,while the provision of ineals at no cost is a crifical step in promoting student wellness,me
nuGitional qualily of those meals plays an equally important role in suppoding s[udent development,
concenVation,and long-term health outcomes;and
WHEREAS, there is an increasing demand from parents, students, and health advocates for school
meal programs to Incorporate more whole foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, plant-based options, and meals
that are lower in added sugars and processed ingredients;and
WHEREAS, exploring affordable and local�y-sourced healthier food opfions can benefit not only
students but also local farmers,food producers,and the regional economy; and
WHEREAS, investing in improved meal options today can yield long-term benefts in student health,
arademic achievement,and community well-being.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission
hereby urging Miami-Dade County Public Schools to explore affordable, healthier, and, if feasible,
locally-sourced meal options for students.
