Design Review Board Recommendation (DRB24-1050) -West Avenue Phase
II Right o f Way I mprovements
On November 5, 2024, the Design Review Board (ORB) reviewed and approved an application for
revisions to the West Avenue Phase II Right of Way Improvements project {DRB24-1050). As part
of the review of this appl ication, the ORB provided a separate recommendation to the City
Commiss ion which, due to an oversight on the part of staff to the ORB , was not immediately
transm itted to the City Commission .
Project Desc r iption :
On April 5, 2022, the West Avenue Phase II Improvements project was reviewed and approved by
the DRB, except for light fixtures and generator screening, which were continued to a future date
(ORB21-0704). The West Avenue Phase II Improvements consist of rebui ld ing West Avenue ,
including the conversion of street-ends into park-like spaces , and upgrading the underground
infrastructure. The project boundaries extend northward from 8th Street to Collins Canal , and
eastward from Biscayne Bay to just west of Alton Road , encompassing all side streets in-between .
The area south of 14th Street is now identi fi ed as Phase I ll.
DRB Recommendation :
The revisions approved by the ORB on November 5, 2024 included the approval of the new
streetlights and generator screening for the project. Additionally, the ORB approved a separate
motion (6-0), recommending to the City Commission that future infrastructure projects include
more modern light fixtures , street furnishings, and pump station enclosures.
