Granado, City Clerk [J:t::::�Jo TO: FROM: DATE: May 23, 2025 FAsesAosFssE4cF .•• SUBJECT: Art in Public Places Committee Motions -May 20, 2025 The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to provide an update regarding motions made during the May 20, 2025, Art in Public Places (AiPP) Committee meeting. 1.On February 3, 2025, per Referral C 4 A, the City of Miami Beach City Commission directed the AiPP Committee to evaluate "Symphony of Colors: Miami Beach Light Art Installation Proposals" by Sherri Shabbach and Brigitte Andrade. Project contacts attended the May 20, 2025, AiPP Committee meeting and outlined the potential scope of the light installations by the late artist R.O. Shabbach. Motion: The Art in Public Places Committee motions to recommend the Symphony of Colors: Miami Beach Light Art Installation for further consideration contingent on budget and funding availability from the City. The above motion was made by Nick D'Annunzio, seconded by Sara de las Reyes, and passed unanimously. 2.At the June 18, 2024, AiPP Committee meeting, Dr. Lynette Long, Chair of the Miami Beach Commission for Women, presented to advocate for a mural depicting Marjory Stoneman Douglas at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Park. The AiPP Committee recommended the implementation of a Call to Artists to create a mural honoring Marjory Stoneman Douglas at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Park with consideration of signage with historical information about Marjory Stoneman Douglas be included. Artist Christina Pettersson was invited to develop a corresponding proposal and present alternate material options for the mural on the Park's restroom facility west-facing wall at the May 20, 2025, AiPP Committee meeting. Motion: The Art in Public Places Committee motions to approve artist Christina Pettersson to create a concrete vinyl mural honoring Marjory Stoneman Douglas at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Park. The above motion was made by Nick D'Annunzio, seconded by Steve Berke, and passed unanimously. 3.The three (3) finalist artists in the Bayshore Park public art commission (Richard Hudson, We are committed to providing excellent public service and safety to all who live, work and play in our vibrant, tropical, historic community LTC #217-2025 Docusign Envelope ID:402886EB-1FE 1-4B3A-8D6D-F83A40839F2F8 R&R Studios,and Michele Oka Doner)presented their second and final proposals to the AiPP Committee on Tuesday,April 15,2025.The AiPP Committee made a motion to defer voting until the full group was present to facilitate a final vote.All members attended the Tuesday,May 20,2025,meeting. Motion:The Art in Public Places Committee motions to approve the "Bird House"proposal by artist Michele Oka Doner as the selected public artwork for the Bayshore Park project. The above motion was made by Nick D'Annunzio,seconded by Silvia Barisione,and passed by a 4-2vote in its favor. 4.Pursuant to Resolution No.2019-31038,the Tourism and Culture Department issued a Call to Artists to design a flamingo-inspired work of art for Flamingo Park.Following an internal staff review of the call for qualifications garnering 34 individual submissions,the AiPP Committee reviewed shortlisted applicants and recommended that three (3)of the artists be invited to submit a formal proposal. Motion:The Art in Public Places Committee motions to recommend three (3)artists as semi-finalist artists and be invited to submit formal proposals.The semi-finalist artists are Naomi Fisher,Koichiro Azuma and Atelier van Lieshout. The above motion was made by Nick D'Annunzio,seconded by Direlia Lazo,and passed unanimously. 5.Tourism and Culture Department issued a call to artists for the annual Elevate Espanola temporary public art program.Following an internal staff review of the call for qualifications garnering 44 individual submissions,the AiPP Committee reviewed shortlisted applicants and recommended that two (2)of the artists are invited to submit a formal proposal. Motion:The Art in Public Places Committee motions to recommend two (2)artists as semi-finalist artists and be invited to submit formal proposals.The semi-finalist artists are Germane Barnes and Janet Echelman. The above motion was made by Nick D'Annunzio,seconded by Steve Berke,and passed unanimously. 6.Following revisions to the City of Miami Beach Artist Vendor program,prospective applicants must undergo review with the Art in Public Places Committee after presenting their work to Tourism &Culture staff.This review is conducted to verify the artisanal nature of the items they wish to sell.Current applicants shared a physical demonstration of the production of their works and showed finished examples for consideration at a recorded meeting.Cultural Affairs staff relayed this information along with images to the AiPP Committee. Motion:The Art in Public Places Committee motions to approve the following applicants to the City of Miami Beach Artist Vendor program:Darien Santos (BLPL#2025-09609), Andres Arango (BLPL#2025-09614),and Yuliia Stryshkova (BLPL#2025-09615). The above motion was made by Steve Berke,seconded by Sara de los Reyes,and passed unanimously.
