A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH,AUTHORIZING A ONE-TIME MATCHING GRANT OF $5,000.00
TO THE SUNFLOWER SOCIETY, A 501(C)(3) NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION,
TO SUPPORT ITS FREE AFTER-SCHOOL AND INTERGENERATIONAL
COMMUNITY ART CLASSES AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK AND
CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE CITY'S STANDARD GRANT
AGREEMENT WITH RESPECT TO THE FOREGOING.
WHEREAS, the Sunflower Society is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that has been
active in the community since 1971, offering free after-school art classes for children and adults
in Miami Beach through partnerships with local schools and venues such as Fienberg Fisher K-8
Center, UNIDAD of Miami Beach, and the Miami Beach Botanical Garden; and
WHEREAS, these programs foster environmental awareness, civic engagement, and
intergenerational collaboration, and regularly culminate in public exhibits attended by elected
officials and community members; and
WHEREAS, the Sunflower Society receives limited funding from Miami-Dade County
Department of Cultural Affairs, discretionary contributions from County Commissioners, and other
community-based sources, and has requested funds from the City of Miami Beach to complement
a grant from Miami-Dade County; and
WHEREAS,the organization has requested a$5,000.00 grant from the City to support the
continuation of its free art programming for the upcoming fiscal year beginning October 1, 2025;
and
WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes the value of the Sunflower Society's
contributions to the cultural and educational life of Miami Beach and wishes to support its efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby authorize a one-time matching grant of$5,000.00 to the Sunflower Society,
a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to support its free after-school and intergenerational
community art classes and authorize the City Clerk and City Manager to execute the City's
standard grant agreement with respect to the foregoing.
