A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING TELECOMMUNICATION
COMPANIES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, VERIZON
WIRELESS, T-MOBILE, AND ATBT, TO INCREASE BANDWIDTH AND
COVERAGE ALONG THE JULIA TUTTLE CAUSEWAY IN ORDER TO
IMPROVE AND ENHANCE CELLULAR RECEPTION ALONG THE
CAUSEWAY; AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A
COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO ALL TELECOMMUNICATION
COMPANIES OPERATING IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH.
WHEREAS, the Julia Tutlle Causeway (the "Julia Tuttle" or "Causeway") is a major
transportation corridor that connects the City of Miami Beach ("City") with the Cily of Miami and
serves as a vital commuter route for residents, visitors, and emergency services; and
WHEREAS, reliable and high-speed cellular coverage along the Julia Tuttle is essential
for public safety, access to navigation services, emergency communication, and general mobile
connectivity; and
WHEREAS, in Resolution No. 2022-32240, the Mayor and City Commissioner expressed
support for the installation of a cellular communications tower along the Julia Tuttle due to resident
e-mails voicing their concems about spotty and/or defcient coverage along the Causeway; and
WHEREAS, yet, the City continues to receive complaints from residents, commuters, and
public safety personnel regarding inadequate cellular reception and bandwid[h along significant
stretches of the Julia Tuttle; and
WHEREAS, the lack of sufficient cellular service in this area presents a risk to public
safety, particularry in emergency situations where timely communication can be critical; and
WHEREAS, telecommunications providers including Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, AT&T,
and others maintain signifcant coverage in the City and are encouraged to evaluate their
infrastructure along the Julia Tuttle Causeway and take all necessary steps to enhance network
performance; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission believe that the improvement of cellular
infrastructure and bandwidth in this high-traffic area is in the best interest of the health, safety,
and general welfare of residents and visitors alike.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that lhe Mayor and City
Commission hereby urge telecommunication companies including, but not limited to, Verizon
Wireless, T-Mobile, and AT&T, to increase bandwidth and coverage along the Julia Tuttle
Causeway in order to improve and enhance cellular reception along the Causeway; and further,
direct the City Clerk to transmit a copy of this Resolution to all telecommunication companies
operating in the City of Miami Beach.
