A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO ENGAGE IN DISCUSSIONS WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY RELATING TO THE POSSIBLE ASSUMPTION OF CONTROL OVER SIGNALIZATION OF STREETS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH. WHEREAS,the signalization of intersections and traffc signals on streets within the City of Miami Beach is presently under the jurisdiction and control of Miami-Dade County; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is uniquely situated, with significant pedestrian, cyclist, micro-mobility, and vehicular traffic, and the City Commission has ezpressed a desire to implement traffic signal improvements and multimodal transportation policies that reFlect the specific needs of the City's residents, businesses, and visitors; and WHEREAS, local control over traffc signalization would provide the City with greater flezibility to coordinate signal timing, enhance pedestrian safety, improve traffic flow, and support the City's broadertransportation and mobility goals, as well as climate resiliency; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wish to explore the potential benefits of assuming control over the signallzation of streets located within the City; and WHEREAS, in furtherance of thls objective, the City Commission desires to direct the City Administration to initiate discussions with Miami-Dade County to evaluate the feasibility and process for transferring signalization responsibilities to the City of Miami Beach. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission dired the City Administration to engage in discussions with Miami-Dade County relating to the possible assumption of control over signalization of streets located within the City of Miami Beach.
