A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO
PREPARE AND PRESENT, FOR CONSIDERATION DURING THE FISCAL
YEAR 2026 BUDGET PROCESS, A PROPOSAL TO: (1) EXPAND THE
EXISTING NORTH BEACH COMMUNITY GARDEN AT 7350 DICKENS
AVENUE; AND (2) INSTALL A NEW COMMUNITY GARDEN ON AN
APPROPRIATE PARCEL WITHIN THE CITY-OWNED WEST LOTS.
WHEREAS, the North Beach Community Garden, located at 7350 Dickens Avenue, was
established in Fall 2007, and is as an all-organic garden maintained by a team of dedicated local
gardeners; and
WHEREAS, for nearly two decades the garden has served as a vital resource for Miami
Beach residents who seek to grow their own fresh, healthy produce and foster community
connections through sustainable urban agriculture; and
WHEREAS, the garden is presently surrounded by sizable, under-utilized grassy areas
that require constant City upkeep; and
WHEREAS, expanding the North Beach Community Garden into these available, under-
utilized green spaces would transform idle turf into productive plots, increase opportunities for
residents to cWtivate organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs, and reduce ongoing maintenance
costs associated with mowing and irrigation; and
WHEREAS, moreover, the City also owns eight "West Lots" parcels fronting Collins
Avenue behveen 79th and 87th Streets, portions of which could present an ideal location for a
second community garden that can serve nearby neighborhoods, and activate dormant land; and
WHEREAS, establishing additional community garden capacity aligns with the City's
goals of promoting heaRhy lifestyles, food security, environmental stewardship, and
neighborhood engagement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby direct the CityAdministration to prepare and present,for consideration during
the Fiscal Year 2026 budget process, a proposal to: (1) expand the existing North Beach
community garden at 7350 Dickens Avenue; and (2) install a new communiry garden on an
appropriate parcel within the City-owned West Lots.
