SUBJECT: Gift of Life Event in Collaboration with the Fire and Police Departments
The purpose of this Letter to the Commission (L TC) is to inform you that the City's Fire and Police Departments will be hosting a community outreach event in collaboration with the Gift of Life non-profit organization on October 5, 2025, at Fire Station 2 from 1 0AM-Noon (see enclosed flyer).
During this community outreach event, the Fire and Police Departments will engage in a friendly "Battle of the Badges" burger competition, initiate Fire Prevention week with fire safety information and demonstrations, provide hurricane safety information, and conduct a Police K-9 demonstration. This event is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and learn about safety while supporting a great cause such as the Gift of Life organization.
The Gift of Life non-profit organization is dedicated to saving lives by facilitating blood stem cell and bone marrow transplants for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood-related diseases. The registry houses its own state-of-the-art stem cell collection center, biobank and laboratory. During this event, the community will have the opportunity to join the Gift of Life registry on-site through a simple cheek swab. All proceeds will benefit the non-profit organization, helping to expand the number of potential donors and increasing the chances of finding a life-saving match for patients battling diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia. Additionally, the community will witness a transplant recipient meeting their heroic donor for the very first time.
