Monthly Marine Patrol Update -June 2025
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to provide a monthly update on the efforts by the
Administration to maintain public safety on City of Miami Beach waterways.
The Miami Beach Police Department's Marine Patrol Unit consists of one (1) sergeant and six (6) officers
who have split shift hours and weekends to allow for seven-day coverage of City waterways. The unit's fleet
currently consists of two (2) 32-foot Contenders, one (1) 25-foot SAFE Boat, one (1) 21-foot Contender, two
(2)25-foot Contender Bay Boats, and one ( 1) 18-foot Whaler.
The Marine Patrol Unit has also assigned an officer to be a full-time Derelict Vessel Investigator whose duties
include investigating all the anchored vessels daily, weekly, and monthly. The anchored vessels are
inspected for registration, proof of ownership, marine sanitation device, anchor light at night, propulsion test,
hull integrity, and illegal moorings attached to the vessels.
The Palm and Hibiscus Islands are located within one of the most patrolled areas of the city. Every weekend,
Marine Patrol officers are stationed at Monument Island in the direct vicinity of the Palm and Hibiscus Islands
as shown by Marine Patrol's enforcement activity below. The green circles indicate each enforcement action
taken by Marine Patrol. In June, Marine Patrol Officers made zero (0) arrests for loud music around
Monument Island and issued 45 citations in the area bringing the total to 332 throughout 2025. See below
