GRANTAGREEMENT BETWEEN
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA
AND
UNIDAD OF MIAMI BEACH, INC.
This Amendment No. 1 (ihe "AmendmenP')to the Agreement by and between the
City of Mlaml Beach, Flonda, a municipal corporation organized and existing under the
laws of the State of Floride, having Its principal place of business at 1700 Convention
Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida 33139(the"City")and UNIDAD of Miami Beach,Ine.,
a Florida not-tor-profit corporetion (the "Grantee"), having tts principal place of business
at 7251 Cqllins Ave, Miaml Beach, Floritla 33141 is entered into ihis 20'" day of June,
2025 (the"ERective Date"):
RECITALS
WHEREAS, on Decembar 12, 2018, the Mayor and Ciry Commission adopted
Resolution No. 2018•30654, approving a grant award to Grantea, in the amount of
$230,000, to fund senior servites being oRered at Ihe North Beach Senior Center, which
services inGude,without IimiWGon, senior meals and socialization progrems;
WHEREAS, from 2018 ro 2023, the City awartletl an annual grent of$230,000 to
Grantee;
WHEREAS, in October 2024, the Mayor antl Ciry Commission approved an
increase in City funding ot$50,000 from$230,000 to$280,000,enabling Grantee to serve
140 meals per day on a first-come, firsbserved basis;
WHEREAS,on Detember 10, 2024,the City and Grantee entered into that certain
Grant Agreement(the"AgreemenY')wherein me City agreed to provide grant funds in the
amount of$280,000 to Grantee for the FY 2024;
WNEREAS, the initial tertn of the Agreement commencad on Oclober 1,2024 and
expires on September 30, 2025 and, subjecl to funtling approval,wiY automafically renew
for one (1) one-year renewal term, commencing on Oclober 1, 2025 and expiring on
September 30, 2026;
WHEREAS, to address a growing demand for resources, on May 21, 2025, the
Mayor and Ciry Commission adopted Resolution No. 202533693, approving an increase
in funds to Gramee of$70,000,from $280,000 to$350,000;and
WHEREAS, accortlingly, the Clty and Grantea desire lo amend the Agreement to
increase the total g2nt funds by$70,000 to$350,000.
NOW TNEREFORE,in consideration ofthe mutual promises arW conditions contflined
herein, and other good and valuable consideration, the suHiciency of which is hereby
acknowledged, the City and Grantee hereby agree to amend the Agreement as Tollows:

A RESOLUTION OF THE MAVOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE IN
FUNDING TO UNIDAD Of MIAMI BEACH, INC., IN THE AMOUNT OF
E70,000 FOR SENIOR MEAL SERVICES IN FISCAL YEAR 2025,
BRINGING THE TOTAL CITY FUNDING SUPPORT FOR UNIDAD TO
$350,000 FOR THE CURRENT FISCAL YEAR, IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN
SERVICE LEVELS OF 140 MEALS PER DAY THROUGH SEPTEMBER
30, 2025.
WHEREAS, UNIDAD of Miami Beach, Inc. has long served as a vital communiry
partner in providing essential nutrRion services and programs to Miami Beach seniors,
many of whom are low-income, isolated, or at-risk; and
WHEREAS, since 2018, the City of Miami Beach has awarded an annual grant of
$230,000 to UNIDAD, without any cost-of-living or inflationary ad'yustments over a six-
year period; and
WHEREAS, in addition, UNIDAD successfully leveraged matching federal support
through the Older Americans Act to supplement its services a�d initially provide 12Q
meals per day to eligible seniors; and
WHEREAS, in Oc[ober 2024, the Mayor and Cfty Commission approved an
increase in City funding to $280,000, enabling UNIDAD to serve 140 meals per day on a
first-come, frst-served basis; and
WHEREAS, however, in the past seven weeks alone, UNIDAD has had to tum
away 130 Miami Beach seniors due to i�sufficient meal supply, with growing demand far
outpacing resources; and
WHEREAS, lensions have escalateA to the point thaf Miami Beach Pofice have
been called on two occasions due m incidents involving hungry and desperate seniors;
and
WHEREAS, recent fede�al budget decisions have resulted io a fresze aaQ cu[to
Older Americans Act funding, jeopardizing UNIDAD's a6ility to serve the community; and
WHEREAS, inflation and rising operating costs, including a significant May 1.
2025, increase in per-meal costs under a competitively bid catering contrect, are placing
further strain on UNIDAD's budget; and
WHEREAS, without additional funding. UNIDAD will be forced to reduce daily meal
service irom 140 to 110 meals, leaving even more seniors without access to basic daily
nutrition; and

WHEREAS,the requested $70,000 in addkional Ciry support would allow UNIOAD
to sustain its current service leve�of 140 meals per day through September 30. 2025; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission recognizes its moral and civic
responsibility to protect its most vulnerable residents and ensure no senior goes hungry
in our community; and
WHEREAS, as Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "the tesf of our progress is not
whether we add more to the abuntlance of those who have much, but whether we pmvide
enough for those who have too little," and as Mahatma Gandhi observed, "a natwn's
greatness is measured hy how it treats its weakest members."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby authonze an increase in funding to UNIDAD of Miami Beach, Ina, in
the amount of$70,000 for senior meal services in Fiscal Year 2025, bnnging the total City
funding support for UNIDAD to $350,000 for the current Fiscal Year, in order to maintain
service levels of 140 meals per day through September 30, 2025.
