A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE MUNICIPALITIES OF
BAL HARBOUR, BAY HARBOR, AND SURFSIDE TO MATCH THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH IN INCREASING GRANT FUNDING FOR THE
REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE OF THE SOUTH FLORIDA ERUV LINE
WITHIN THEIR RESPECTIVE MUNICIPAL BOUNDARIES.
WHEREAS, [he City of Miami Beach has recognized the importance of the Eruv
line for the Jewish community and has taken action to support it; and
WHEREAS, the City has accommodated an Eruv line within the City's territorial
limits since as early as the �970s, if not earlier; and
WHEREAS, a Eruv line currently exists not only in Miami Beach, but extends to
Surfside, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands, Aventura, and other municipalities, making
the South Florida Eruv one of the largest known Eruvs in the country; and
WHEREAS, recently, the City of Miami Beach has increased the graM to the Miami
Beach Eruv Council, Inc. from $12,000 to $20,000 from the General Fund; and
WHEREAS, the City believes that the Eruv line is imporlant not only to the City but
also to the barrier islands beyond its municipal boundanes, including Bal Harbour, Bay
Harbor, and Surfside; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wish to encourage the municipalities
of Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor, and Surfside to support the Eruv line and to match the City's
contribution to ensure the continuity and maintenance of the Eruv line in their respective
municipalities for the benefit of the entire community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission here urge the municipalities of Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor, and Surfside to
match the City of Miami Beach in increasing grant funding forthe repair and maintenance
of the South Florida Eruv Line within their respective municipal boundaries.
