Additional Grant Award for West Avenue Neighborhood Adaptation (Phase Ill)
I am pleased to inform you that the City of Miami Beach has received a Notice of Grant Award from
the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) for the West Avenue Neighborhood
Adaptation (Phase Ill) project. In addition to the $10 Million grant already awarded to the project
from the Resilient Florida Fiscal Year 2022-2023 Grant Program, it will receive $8,218,544 from
the Resilient Florida Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Grant Program. These additional funds are being
awarded in response to a successful cost overrun grant request. In total, the project will now have
more than $18.2 million in state grant funding, specifically for the construction phase.
The grant funding will partially fund part of the $15.8 million water & sewer funding gap for the
West Avenue Neighborhood Adaptation (Phase Ill) project. It should be noted that as part of the
FY 2026 budget, the West Avenue Neighborhood Adaptation (Phase Ill) project will have its above
ground and stormwater elements fully funded.
In just the last four years, the City has secured a total of more than $85.1 Million from the FDEP
Resilient Florida Grant Program alone. I am very grateful for the State of Florida and FDEP's
ongoing support of our important flood mitigation projects that will help to secure a safe and
prosperous future for our community.
I would like to thank the City's Grants Management Division for aggressively continuing their
pursuit of federal, state, local, and foundation funding. Utilizing external funds allows our City to
reduce the financial burden on taxpayers.
