Maximize the Miami Beach Brand As A World Class Destination Supporting Data (Surveys, Environmenta! Scan, etc.): N/A Item Summary/Recommendation : After initially contracting museum project managers Paratus Group from September 2013-July 2014, The Wolfsonian's interim leadership transitioned responsibility for crafting the master plan to Rene Gonzalez, who had worked with renowned architect Mark Hampton on the renovation of the Washington Storage Company building to meet museum and historic preservation standards when The Wolfsonian became a public institution in 1995. The Wolfsonian-FlU has been working with Rene Gonzalez Architects on a conceptual master plan to renovate the museum at 1001 Washington Avenue and construct a five-story expansion to the north of the existing building. The proposed project renders the building more accessible and inviting to the public, increases the museum's programmable and revenue-generating spaces, includes a civic space, and provides parking. The project also incorporates a phased strategy for construction and development to align capital improvements with the Wolfsonian's available resources for operations. ln November 2014, the museum requested an extension for completion of the plan, which was granted by the City and is scheduled for completion by March 31, 2015. The extension was requested in order to work with the Washington Avenue Blue Ribbon Panel to ensure alignment with the City's vision for Washington Avenue. The proposed plan aligns with the Washington Avenue Master Plan & Vision being developed by The Washington Avenue Blue Ribbon Panel and architect Bernard Zyscovich at the request of the City. This item was discussed at the February 27,2015 NCAC meeting and was scheduled for follow up discussion at the April 21,2015 meeting. Although The Wolfsonian was originally scheduled to deliver the master plan to the City by March 31,2015, the attached letter from The Wolfsonian requests an extension of the grant period to 07131115. The NCAC met on April 21,2015 and acknowledged the extension and deferred further discussion until after July 20'15. The City Manager has the authority to grant an extension of time and recommends in favor of it. However, given that an extension has previously been approved, the City Manager is seeking confirmation from the City Commission for the extension.
