THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT'S
ADVANCEMENTS IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
The purpose of this L TC is to inform the Mayor and Commission of the Information Technology
Department's continued advancements in Artificial Intelligence (Al). Building on prior efforts, the
Department has expanded the use of Al to include Al agents and strengthened regional
partnerships to enhance staff skills, while also advancing practical applications already in use for
cybersecurity, analytics, productivity, generative Al, and customer service. These efforts have also
earned recognition for the City's leadership at a statewide technology conference. These
developments reflect Miami Beach's ongoing commitment to innovation, responsible governance,
and improved services for residents and employees.
The City continues to expand the use of Artificial Intelligence to strengthen services and support
employees. The Information Technology Department has established a dedicated Al working
group that identifies automation opportunities, develop custom solutions, and works in partnership
with Legal and Risk to align projects with compliance standards and manage potential impacts
across City departments.
The City's Al ecosystem now includes eight custom-developed agents, with five (5) fully
implemented and accessible to employees authorized to access. These agents are transforming
how staff train and interact with complex information, supporting procurement policies, building
codes, IT governance, law enforcement protocols, and fire department operations. Development
is underway on new internal resources for staff, as well as impactful public tools that will improve
how the City communicates and engages with residents.
To strengthen workforce readiness, the City is again partnering with Miami Dade College,
recognized nationally for its leadership in artificial intelligence research and workforce training.
This collaboration provides employees with tailored instruction on the use of City-owned Al
platforms, strengthening productivity and building long-term skills.
The City's leadership in municipal Al was showcased at the 2025 Florida Local Government
Information Systems Association (FLGISA) Annual Conference, where IT delivered the
conference's sole Al-focused technical session to technology leaders from across Florida's local
governments. This presentation reinforced Miami Beach's position as a pioneer in responsible
government technology and innovation.
Each initiative is aligned with the City's IT pillars of customer service, digitization, data and
analytics, cybersecurity, and public safety. By advancing Al within this framework, the city ensures
immediate operational improvements while positioning its workforce and infrastructure for
continued success in an increasingly digital future.
