A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING
THE DONATION OF A 2016 KAWASAKI UTILITY TASK VEHICLE,
HAVING AN APPROXIMATE VALUE OF$3,047.00,TO HATZALAH OF
SOUTH FLORIDA EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES, INC.
("HATZALAH"), A 501(C)(3) FLORIDA NOT FOR PROFIT
CORPORATION, IN SUPPORT OF HATZALAH'S EFFORTS TO
ENHANCE ITS MEDICAL PATIENT TRANSPORT CAPABILITIES.
WHEREAS, Hatzalah of South Florida Emergency Medical Services, Inc. ("Hatzalah"),
a 501(c)(3) Florida not for profit corporation with an address of 20201 NE 16th Place, Miami,
Florida 33179, is in need of a utility task vehicle to enhance its patient transport capabilities in
areas that are inaccessible, or not readily accessible, to a traditional ambulance or medical
transport vehicle; and
WHEREAS, Hatzalah has a significant presence in Miami Beach, providing emergency
volunteer EMT ambulance and medical services to residents and visitors experiencing life-
threatening, or potentially life-threatening, conditions such as cardiac emergencies,
automobile accidents, choking, severe allergic reactions, and many other life-threatening
conditions; and
WHEREAS, Hatzalah also has approximately 30 State-certified EMT and paramedic
volunteer responders serving Miami Beach, and over 330 volunteers across South Florida;
and
WHEREAS, the City's Facilities and Fleet Management Department ("Fleet
Department") periodically decommissions older vehicles that are no longer used; and
WHEREAS, the Fleet Department previously determined that a City-owned 2016
Kawasaki Utility Task Vehicle, Model No. KAF829GG and bearing VIN No.
JKBAFSG19GB501762 ("the Kawasaki UTV"),was surplus stock and should be replaced; and
WHEREAS, the Kawasaki UTV, with an approximate value of$3,047.00, is presently in
out of service status and is no longer being utilized by the City; and
WHEREAS, the out of service Kawasaki UTV is fitted with a Kimtek Medlite Transport
and also has an aluminum rack installed, which can be useful for carrying rescue boards; and
WHEREAS, the City Code authorizes the donation of surplus stock to a not-for-profit
organization, without placing the surplus stock for public sale, if the donation serves a
charitable or public purpose; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to approve and authorize the
donation of the Kawasaki UTC in order to assist Hatzalah in enhancing its medical patient
transport services and capabilities; and
WHEREAS, this donation is made in "as is" condition, and the City makes no
representation as to the condition of the Kawasaki UTV, with no warranties, expressed or
implied, and the City assumes no responsibility for the functioning or operability of said
equipment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby approve and authorize the donation of a 2016 Kawasaki Utility Task
Vehicle, having an approximate value of$3,047.00, to Hatzalah of South Florida Emergency
Medical Services, Inc. ("Hatzalah"), a 501(c)(3) Florida not for profit corporation, in support of
Hatzalah's efforts to enhance its medical patient transport capabilities.
