RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 2025 AS "HUNGER
ACTION MONTH" IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH.
WHEREAS, Hunger Action Month, observed nationally each September, is a time when
people across the United States unite to spread awareness about the issue of hunger and to take
meaningful steps to ensure that no one goes without access to nutritious food; and
WHEREAS, according to the Florida Department of Health, 14.4% of Floridians—more
than 3 million people—experienced food insecurity in 2023, with Miami-Dade County's rate at
15.1%; and
WHEREAS, Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap study reports that in 2023, nearly 1 in
5 children in Florida lived in food-insecure households, underscoring the urgent need for targeted
hunger-relief efforts; and
WHEREAS, local and regional food banks, pantries, houses of worship, nonprofit
organizations, and volunteers in Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County work tirelessly to provide
food assistance to those in need; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach recognizes the importance of supporting these
organizations, fostering community engagement, and promoting initiatives that reduce food
waste, increase access to healthy foods, and address the root causes of hunger; and
WHEREAS, by proclaiming September as Hunger Action Month, the City seeks to amplify
public awareness, encourage charitable giving, and inspire volunteerism and advocacy in pursuit
of a hunger-free community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby proclaim the month of September 2025 as "Hunger Action Month" in the
City of Miami Beach.
