Resolution 2025-33872 RESOLUTION NO. 2025-33872
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING THE CITY'S UNIQUE
COASTAL AND MARINE RESOURCES, INCLUDING MANY ISLAND
COMMUNITIES SUCH AS HIBISCUS ISLAND, PALM ISLAND, STAR
ISLAND, AND THE VENETIAN ISLANDS; ACKNOWLEDGING THE
PRESENCE OF THE MIAMI BEACH MARINA, OTHER MARINAS,
KAYAK LAUNCHES, AND WATER RECREATION FACILITIES; AND
DIRECTING THAT THE CREATION OF A NO-WAKE ZONE AROUND
SUCH ISLANDS, MARINAS, KAYAK LAUNCHES, AND WATER
RECREATION AREAS BE ESTABLISHED AS A LEGISLATIVE
PRIORITY FOR THE 2026 LEGISLATIVE SESSION.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach ("City") is distinguished by its unique
geography, consisting of many island communities including, but not limited to, Hibiscus
Island, Palm Island, Star Island, and the Venetian Islands, along with numerous canals,
waterways, and marine access points; and
WHEREAS, the City is also home to the Miami Beach Marina and several other
marinas, along with kayak and paddleboard launches and other waterfront facilities that
provide residents and visitors with safe access to the City's waters; and
WHEREAS, vessel traffic in and around these sensitive areas creates safety
concerns for swimmers, paddlers, and small craft users (which includes children and
young adults), while also contributing to shoreline erosion, property damage, and
environmental stress to marine habitats; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of designated No-Wake zones around island
communities, marinas, kayak launches, and similar water recreation areas would greatly
enhance public safety, protect marine and shoreline environments, and preserve quality
of life for residents and visitors alike; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds it in the best interest of the City to formally
advocate for legislative authority, regulatory support, and funding as needed to create
and enforce such No-Wake zones; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to make the creation of No-Wake zones
around Miami Beach's island neighborhoods, marinas, and water recreation areas a
legislative priority for 2026.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby recognize the City's unique coastal and marine resources, including
