RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO CONDUCT
AN INTERNAL STUDY TO IDENTIFY A SUITABLE LOCATION FOR THE
RELOCATION OF THE SANITATION DEPARTMENT'S OPERATIONS OFFICE,
CURRENTLY LOCATED ON THE FIRST FLOOR OF THE 17TH STREET
PARKING GARAGE, SAID STUDY TO BE CONDUCTED USING INTERNAL
RESOURCES IN LIGHT OF CURRENT BUDGETARY CONSTRAINTS, AND
FURTHER, DIRECT THE ADMINISTRATION TO REPORT ITS FINDINGS AND
RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE CITY COMMISSION WITHIN 90 DAYS.
WHEREAS, on February 26, 2025, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution
No. 2025-33525, sponsored by Commissioner Laura Dominguez, accepting the recommendation
of the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee (PSNQLC) at its January 29,
2025 meeting, to consider funding during the Fiscal Year 2026 budget process to engage the
consultant Kimley Horn to conduct a study for the relocation of the Sanitation Department's
Operations Office, currently located on the first floor of the 17th Street Parking Garage; and
WHEREAS, the Sanitation Department currently deploys approximately 170 field
personnel and a significant number of vehicles and equipment from the 17th Street Garage,which
also houses administrative offices and storage areas; and
WHEREAS, the PSNQLC previously reviewed several potential relocation sites, including
451 Dade Boulevard, Terminal Island, and 2100 Meridian Avenue, each with varying degrees of
feasibility and limitations; and
WHEREAS, the Administration has noted that the estimated cost to engage an outside
consultant such as Kimley Horn could range from $100,000 to $150,000; and
WHEREAS, in light of current budgetary constraints, the Mayor and City Commission
desire to explore cost-effective alternatives to an external consultant study; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission find it in the best interest of the City to direct
the Administration to conduct an internal study, using existing staff and resources, to identify and
evaluate potential relocation sites for the Sanitation Department's Operations Office.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby direct the Administration to conduct an internal study to identify a suitable
location for the relocation of the Sanitation Department's Operations Office, currently located on
the first floor of the 17th Street Parking Garage, and further, direct the Administration to report its
findings and recommendations to the City Commission within 90 days.
