Resolution 2025-33874 2025-33874 RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO ISSUE A LETTER TO COMMISSION (LTC) PROVIDING AN UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF THE CITY'S SMART LIGHTING PROJECT. WHEREAS, in 2017, the City of Miami Beach issued Request for Qualifications No. 2017- 119-KB for Smart City Street Lighting System and embarked on a comprehensive Citywide Smart Lighting Project to enhance public safety, improve energy efficiency, and provide uniform street lighting conditions throughout the City; and WHEREAS, the project has been progressing through various phases, including photometric analysis, detailed surveys, development of City Lighting Standards, and the implementation of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); and WHEREAS, the project is progressing rapidly, with the contractor currently installing nearly twice the number of fixtures originally projected per day; and WHEREAS, during the transition to the new smart lighting platform, some residents reported issues with excessive brightness and flickering; and WHEREAS, these issues were traced to fixtures operating in photocell mode, which was overly sensitive to ambient light and to resolve this, the team reprogrammed affected fixtures to astronomical time mode which uses digital sunrise/sunset data for more stable performance; and WHEREAS, customized lighting schedules and dimming adjustments are being implemented to ensure safe, energy efficient illumination; and WHEREAS, the broader scope also includes voltage transitions and load center replacements; and WHEREAS, the benefits of the Smart Lighting Project to the community include promoting safety, enhancing the resident and visitor experience at night, and minimizing unwanted lighting on residences or property windows by strategically adding "house shields" to the luminaires; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to receive an update on the progress and status of the Smart Lighting Project via Letter to Commission (LTC) to ensure its successful implementation and to address any potential challenges or opportunities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Administration is hereby directed to issue a Letter to Commission (LTC) providing an update on the status of the City's Smart Lighting Project.
