RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, F�ORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO
ENGAGE WITH OOLITE ARTS REGARDING THE POTENTIAL LEASE OF ONE
OF ITS GROUND FLOOR RETAIL SPACES AT 924 LINCOLN ROAD TO A
BOOKSTORE OPERATOR, AND REPORT BACK TO THE CITY COMMISSION
WITH AN UPDATE AT ITS OCTOBER 29, 2025 MEETING.
WHEREAS, Oolite Arts is a Miami Beach-based nonprofit organization dedicated
to advancing contemporary visual arts and culture, with its headquarters currently located
at 924 Lincoln Road; and
WHEREAS, the ground floor of Oolite Arts' Lincoln Road location includes retail
spaces that could be suitable for cultural or community-oriented uses; and
WHEREAS, the closure of Books & Books in 2020 left Miami Beach without a
dedicated bookstore, creating a cultural gap for residents, visitors, and the City's literary
community; and
WHEREAS, bookstores serve as important cultural anchors, fostering literacy,
supporting local authors, hosting events, and contributing to the vibrancy of urban
districts; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to explore opportunities to restore a
bookstore presence in Miami Beach, particularly in a location that complements the City's
arts and cultural offerings; and
WHEREAS, thus, the Mayor and City Commission direct the Administration to
engage with Oolite Arts to discuss the feasibility of leasing one of its ground floor retail
spaces to a bookstore operator, and report back with updates at the October 29, 2025
City Commission meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby direct the City Administration to engage with Oolite Arts regarding the
potential lease of one of its ground floor retail spaces at 924 Lincoln Road to a bookstore operator,
and report back to the City Commission with an update at its October 29, 2025 meeting.
