A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO
COLLABORATE WITH LOCAL ARTISTS AND CULTURAL ANCHORS TO
DEVELOP PROGRAMMING FOR THE SOUTH SHORE COMMUNITY CENTER,
AND RETURN TO THE CITY COMMISSION AT ITS OCTOBER 29, 2025
MEETING WITH PRELIMINARY UPDATES.
WHEREAS, the South Shore Community Center ("SSCC"), located at 833 6th Street,
plays a vital role in serving the needs of the community by providing a welcoming space for
cultural, artistic, and educational engagement; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes the importance of fostering local talent and
strengthening connections between residents and the City's cultural institutions; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wish to direct the City Administration to
collaborate with local artists, cultural anchors, and community stakeholders to develop and
implement a diverse schedule of programming for the South Shore Community Center; and
WHEREAS, examples of potential programming at the SSCC could include he following
activations:
• Utilizing the walls of the facility as a rotating gallery for local artists, including
community members, updated quarterly;
• Hosting a recurring "Sunsets at the `Shore" series, either indoors or in the
garden, featuring rotating activities such as open mic nights, performances by
local musicians, and other community-driven events; and
• Partnering with cultural institutions — from the Young Musicians' Union to the
Ballet and others — to host evening events open to all, offering dance, music,
art, and lectures; and
WHEREAS, such programming would enhance the quality of life for residents, promote
cultural exchange, and support the City's creative economy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby
direct the City Administration to collaborate with local artists and cultural anchors to develop
programming for the South Shore Community Center, and return to the City Commission at its
October 29, 2025 meeting with preliminary updates.
