Design Review Board and Historic Preservation Board Recommendations -
Sidewalk Material/Color Policy
On May 8, 2025, the Land Use and Sustainability (LUSC) requested that the Design Review Board
(ORB) and Historic Preservation Board (HPB) discuss and provide recommendations regarding
the City of Miami Beach sidewalk color policy.
DRB Recommendation:
On July 10, 2025, the ORB held a discussion item regarding the City of Miami Beach sidewalk
color policy, and provided the following comments and recommendations to the City Commission:
1.The City should embrace red sidewalks, as it is a unique element of Miami Beach's history.
2.All sidewalk replacements should be red in all neighborhoods.
3.Red sidewalks appear cleaner than grey or white sidewalks.
HPB Recommendation:
On September 16, 2025, the HPB held a discussion item regarding the City of Miami Beach
sidewalk color policy, and provided the following recommendation to the City Commission:
1.Recommend that the City continue the use of red sidewalks throughout the City's historic
districts.
