A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO
EXPLORE WAYS TO RECLAIM POTENTIAL PARKING SPACES ON 19TH
STREET, CONVENTION CENTER DRIVE, AND MERIDIAN AVENUE TO
BETTER ACCOMMODATE RESIDENTS, AND VISITORS TO THE
HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL OF THE GREATER MIAMI JEWISH FEDERATION,
THE MIAMI BEACH BOTANICAL GARDEN, AND PRIDE PARK; AND
FURTHER DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO LAUNCH A RESIDENT
ENGAGEMENT "RECLAIM PARKING" CAMPAIGN TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL
AREAS WHERE PARKING COULD BE ALLOWED BUT IS NOT CURRENTLY
PERMITTED.
WHEREAS, parking availability in the vicinity of the Holocaust Memorial of the Greater
Miami Jewish Federation, the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, and Pride Park is limited,
particularly during peak visitation hours and during special events; and
WHEREAS, 19th Street, Convention Center Drive, and Meridian Avenue are critical
access corridors for residents, visitors, and event attendees in this cultural and recreational hub
of the City; and
WHEREAS, strategically reclaiming or re-striping under-utilized curb space, reevaluating
loading zones, taxi zones, or restricted areas, and assessing current signage and regulations may
yield additional parking opportunities without significant capital investment; and
WHEREAS, engaging residents and other stakeholders to identify additional areas
throughout the City where parking could be allowed but is not presently permitted will foster
collaboration, improve community satisfaction, and provide the City Commission with informed
recommendations; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires that the Administration explore potential parking
reclamation strategies for the identified streets, while simultaneously undertaking a City-wide
outreach campaign to gather public input on other parking opportunities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby direct the City Administration to explore ways to reclaim potential parking
spaces on 19th Street, Convention Center Drive, and Meridian Avenue to better accommodate
residents, and visitors to the Holocaust Memorial of The Greater Miami Jewish Federation, the
Miami Beach Botanical Garden, and Pride Park; and further direct the administration to launch a
resident engagement"Reclaim Parking" campaign to identify potential areas where parking could
be allowed but is not currently permitted.
