The Miami Beach Police Department's Marine Patrol Unit consists of one (1) sergeant and six (6) officers who have split shift hours and weekends to allow for seven-day coverage of City waterways. The unit's fleet currently consists of two (2) 32-foot Contenders, one (1) 25-foot SAFE Boat, one (1) 21-foot Contender, and two (2) 25-foot Contender Bay Boats. The Marine Patrol Unit has also assigned an officer to be a full-time Derelict Vessel Investigator whose duties include investigating all the anchored vessels daily, weekly, and monthly. The anchored vessels are inspected for registration, proof of ownership, marine sanitation device, anchor light at night, propulsion test, hull integrity, and illegal moorings attached to the vessels.
