SUBJECT:Art in Public Places Committee Motions -December 16,2025
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC)is to provide an update regarding motions made
during the December 16,2025,Art in Public Places (AiPP)Committee meeting.
At the July 15,2025,AiPP Committee meeting,Committee members recommended artist
Koichiro Azuma's Flamingo Machine proposal for the public artwork to be sited at Flamingo Park,
via LTC#328-2025.After a December 9,2025,site visit,the artist shared two paint samples for
consideration of the AiPP Committee,confirming the paint was specifically selected for the Miami
Beach environment and had undergone material testing in Miami.
Motion #1:The Art in Public Places Committee motions to approve pink color swatch 97-
70P for the Flamingo Park Art in Public Places commission by artist Koichiro Azuma.
The above motion was made by Steve Berke,seconded by 0.Gustavo Plascencia,and
passed unanimously.
As part of the City of Miami Beach Artist Vendor program,applicants must undergo review with
the AiPP Committee after presenting their work to Tourism &Culture staff.This review is
conducted to verify the artisanal nature of the items they wish to sell.Current applicants shared
a physical demonstration of the production of their works and showed finished examples for
consideration at a recorded meeting.Cultural Affairs staff relayed this information along with
images to the AiPP Committee.
Motion #2:The Art in Public Places Committee motions to approve the following
applicants to the City of Miami Beach Artist Vendor program:Raisa Marrero (BLPL2025-
09691 ),Brenda Jordan (BLPL2025-09652),Papa Gora George (BLPL2025-09702),Olga
Burgo (BLPL2025-09651),Eileen Ubinas (BLPL2025-09586),Gloria Vega (BLPL2025-
09717),Carmen Valeriano (BLPL2025-09693),Pietro Rapisarda (BLPL2025-0XXXX),
and Marina Echevarria Chong (BLPL2025-09709).
The above motion was made by Sara de las Reyes,seconded by Steve Berke,and passed
unanimously.
