WHEREAS, the Regal Cinema on Lincoln Road in South Beach, a longstanding cultural and entertainment venue, permanently closed on September 30, 2025, after 26 years of continuous operation; and WHEREAS, the closure of the theater reflects broader national trends in the film industry, including shifts in consumer behavior, streaming competition, and changing real estate dynamics; and WHEREAS, the loss of a first -run movie theater in the heart of South Beach represents a significant cultural and economic shift, reducing access to mainstream cinematic experiences for residents and visitors alike; and WHEREAS, the space formerly occupied by the Regal Cinema is reportedly set to be replaced by a new immersive attraction, the "Superhuman Museum," which, while innovative, does not serve the same function as a traditional movie theater; and WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes the importance of maintaining a diverse cultural landscape that includes access to first -run films, which contribute to the vibrancy, walkabillty, and nighttime economy of Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, the City Administration is encouraged to explore creative strategies and potential incentives to support the retention or reintroduction of first -run movie theaters in Miami Beach, including through public -private partnerships, cultural programming, or adaptive reuse of existing venues; and WHEREAS, potential partners in this effort may include local cultural institutions such as the Wolfsonian—FIU, the Miami Beach Bandshell, the New World Symphony (including expanded film screenings at SoundScape Park), and the historic Cameo Theater, among others; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission are committed to preserving and enhancing the City's cultural offerings and ensuring that residents and visitors continue to have access to a wide range of entertainment experiences, including cinema.
