RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DENOUNCING FALSE,
MISLEADING, AND UNSUBSTANTIATED PUBLIC CLAIMS MADE BY
STATE REPRESENTATIVE FABIAN BASABE AGAINST THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH AND MEMBERS OF ITS CITY COMMISSION; AND
REAFFIRMING THE CITY'S COMMITMENT TO TRANSPARENCY,
ETHICAL GOVERNANCE, RESPONSIBLE PUBLIC COMMUNICATION,
AND EVIDENCE -BASED OVERSIGHT.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach and its elected officials conduct the publics business
under high standards of transparency, accountability, and ethical governance; and
WHEREAS, public confidence in local government depends on responsible
communication by public officials and the accurate presentation of facts regarding the City's
finances, contracting processes, and policy decisions; and
WHEREAS, for several years, Representative Fabian Basabe has made public claims —
through press, social media, and official correspondence --accusing the City of Miami Beach and
its Commission of corruption, mismanagement, favoritism, and unethical conduct; and
WHEREAS, on or about October 14, 2025, Representative Basabe requested a
"sweeping audit" of the City of Miami Beach, alleging "financial mismanagement, inflated
contracts, diversion of funds, poor fiscal oversight, and cronyism; none of which have been
substantiated by any evidence; and
WHEREAS, for several years, Representative Basabe has also circulated or amplified
social -media claims characterizing Miami Beach Commissioners as controlled by insiders,
engaged in improper dealings, or participating in unethical conduct related to concessions,
contracts, or land -use decisions, without any evidence whatsoever; and
WHEREAS, Representative Basabe has also made public claims attacking the City's
homeless outreach and enforcement efforts, suggesting that they are ineffective and violative of
state law, all of which are factually and legally baseless and contrary to factually based homeless
census counts evidencing that Miami Beach's homeless population is at historic lows; and
WHEREAS, Representative Basabe has also made categorically false public claims
suggesting that the City's establishment and use of G.O. Bond funds, which were approved by
large majorities of Miami Beach voters, are not being utilized for their intended purposes; and
WHEREAS, unsubstantiated allegations made by public officials undermine public trust,
harm the City's reputation, disparage City employees and elected officials, and create
unnecessary doubt in the integrity of municipal governance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby denounce
the false, misleading, and unsubstantiated claims publicly made by Representative Fabian
Basabe concerning the City of Miami Beach and its Mayor and Commissioners; and reaffirm its
commitment to transparency, ethical governance, responsible public communication, and
evidence -based oversight.
