WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has undertaken a multi -year effort to replace the aging Fire Station No. 1, originally built in 1967 at 1051 Jefferson Avenue, with funding from the 2018 General Obligation Bond and a $10.9 million grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP); and WHEREAS, following extensive analysis and public process, the City Commission previously selected the South Shore Community Center (SSCC) site at 833 6th Street as the preferred location for the new Fire Station No. 1, and the project reached 90% design completion with permits in process and construction scheduled to begin; and WHEREAS, in response to community concerns, the Administration explored alternative sites, including Flamingo Park and privately owned parcels; and WHEREAS, although a referendum authorized consideration of Flamingo Park, subsequent analysis revealed that the negative impacts of constructing a fire station on the track rendered Flamingo Park no longer a viable site; and WHEREAS, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2025-33839 excluding both Flamingo Park and the SSCC site from further consideration; and WHEREAS, the Administration has confirmed that continued delays jeopardize the FDEP grant and risk further cost escalation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby rescind Resolution No. 2025-33839 and direct the Administration to take all steps necessary to proceed with the construction of the new Fire Station No. 1 at the South Shore Community Center site, located at 833 6th Street, as originally planned.
