HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2026-34084RESOLUTION NO. 2026-34084 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO COLLABORATIVELY WORK WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY TO MORE EFFICIENTLY AND EXPEDITIOUSLY CONDUCT TRAFFIC SIGNALIZATION AND RELATED REPAIRS ON MAJOR THOROUGHFARES WITHIN THE CITY INCLUDING, WHEN NECESSARY, PERFORMING SUCH REPAIRS OUTSIDE OF THE NORMALLY PERMITTED HOURS OF 10:00 A.M. TO 3:30 P.M. WHEREAS, the major roadways and intersections within the City of Miami Beach ("City") are under the jurisdiction or operational control of Miami -Dade County ("County"), including responsibility for traffic signalization systems and related infrastructure; and WHEREAS, properly functioning traffic signals, traffic detection loops, cameras, and other ancillary devices, especially on the identified major thoroughfares in the City (Alton Road, 5` Street, West Avenue, 16th Street, Collins Avenue, 17th Street, Indian Creek Drive, Dade Boulevard, Pine Tree Drive / La Gorce Drive, 41" Street, Abbott Avenue / Harding Avenue, 715t Street, Washington Avenue, and 63 d Street) are essential to public safety, efficient traffic flow, emergency response times, and the overall quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors; and WHEREAS, malfunctioning or inoperable traffic signals and related devices can create unsafe conditions for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and first responders, increasing the risk of crashes and delaying emergency response; and WHEREAS, malfunctions or failures of traffic signalization equipment can also create significant increased traffic congestion, safety hazards, and operational challenges if not addressed in a timely manner; and WHEREAS, the performance of traffic signalization repairs and related work on major thoroughfares is typically limited to the normally permitted work hours between 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., which (as the City has been informed by the County) may delay the completion of necessary repairs and prolong traffic disruptions; and WHEREAS, in certain circumstances, allowing such repairs to occur outside of the normally permitted work hours may result in faster resolution of malfunctions, reduced overall traffic impacts, and improved safety conditions; and WHEREAS, enhanced coordination and collaboration between the City and the County would improve communication, scheduling, and execution of traffic signalization repairs on major thoroughfares within the City, while respecting applicable laws, regulations, jurisdictional authority, and contractual obligations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, hereby direct the City Administration to collaboratively work with Miami -Dade County to more efficiently and expeditiously conduct traffic signalization and related repairs on major thoroughfares within the City including, when necessary, performing such repairs outside of the normally permitted hours of 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. PASSED AND ADOPTED this s day of Feb t4av 026.
