HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2026-34097RESOLUTION NO. 2026-34097 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, COMMEMORATING FEBRUARY 2026 AS NATIONAL BLACK HISTORY MONTH AND REAFFIRMING THE CITY'S COMMITMENT TO PROMOTING DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION. WHEREAS, Black History Month is observed nationally each February to honor the achievements, resilience, and cultural contributions of Black Americans throughout our nation's history; and WHEREAS, this annual observance began in 1926 through the efforts of Dr. Carter G. Woodson and has grown into a month -long celebration of the pivotal role Black Americans have played in shaping the United States; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach recognizes that the stories and accomplishments of Black leaders, innovators, and everyday citizens have enriched our community and advanced the cause of justice and equality; and WHEREAS, while progress has been made, the City acknowledges that continued work is needed to eliminate barriers and ensure equal opportunity for all residents; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission remain committed to fostering an inclusive city that celebrates diversity and honors the contributions of Black Americans in the arts, sciences, education, public service, and beyond; and WHEREAS, the City encourages residents and visitors to participate in programs and events during February that highlight Black history and promote dialogue on equity and inclusion. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby commemorate February 2026 as National Black History Month and reaffirm the City's commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
