HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2026-34103RESOLUTION NO. 2026-34103 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THAT PROVIDING CITY EMPLOYEES WITH FERTILITY BENEFITS BE MADE A BUDGET PRIORITY IN THE UPCOMING FY 2027 CITY BUDGET CYCLE TO EFFECTUATE THE PREVIOUS FAVORABLE RECOMMENDATION OF THE FINANCE AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCY COMMITTEE (FERC) IN MARCH 2O25, WHICH THE COMMISSION ACCEPTED IN APRIL 2025, TO PROVIDE EMPLOYEES WITH FERTILITY BENEFITS AS PART OF THEIR CITY HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN. WHEREAS, on March 26, 2025, the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee (FERC) sent to the City Commission a favorable recommendation to provide City employees with fertility benefits; and WHEREAS, in April 2025, the City Commission accepted FERC's recommendation and enacted Resolution No. 2025-33602, recognizing the importance of supporting employees in their family planning needs and promoting equitable access to fertility care; and WHEREAS, the provision of fertility benefits aligns with the City's commitment to employee wellness, competitive benefits, and retention of a talented workforce; and WHEREAS, to implement this initiative effectively, the City Commission wishes to make providing fertility benefits, which the City Administration has previously (in April 2025) obtained a projected cost amount of approximately $579,000 per year, a budget priority in the upcoming FY 2027 City budget cycle. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct that providing City employees with fertility benefits be made a budget priority in the upcoming FY 2027 City budget cycle to effectuate the previous favorable recommendation of the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee (FERC) in March 2025, which the Commission accepted in April 2025, to provide employees with fertility benefits as part of their city health insurance plan.
