HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2026-34111RESOLUTION NO. 2026-34111 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO PREPARE A FISCAL YEAR 2026 BUDGET AMENDMENT TO REALLOCATE FUNDING OF APPROXIMATELY EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($80,000), REPRESENTING A PRO- RATED AMOUNT FOR THE REMAINING EIGHT MONTHS OF 2026, FROM THE SANITATION ENTERPRISE FUND TO THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION TO ENABLE COMMISSIONER TANYA K. BHATT TO HIRE A SECOND LEGISLATIVE AIDE, AS PREVIOUSLY APPROVED AND AUTHORIZED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION PURSUANT TO RESOLUTION NO. 2025-33470. WHEREAS, on September 30, 2025, the Mayor and City Commission adopted the budgets for the General Fund, Enterprise Funds, Internal Service Funds, and Special Revenue Funds for Fiscal Year 2026 through Resolution No. 2025-33945; and WHEREAS, at the September 30, 2025 City Commission meeting, the Mayor and City Commission adopted the FY 2026 budget, which eliminated one of the six additional Commission Aide positions previously approved pursuant to Resolution Nos. 2025-33470 and 2024-32956, in an amount not to exceed $120,000 per position, to enable City Commissioners to better serve the public; and WHEREAS, the $120,000 reduction in the FY 2026 General Fund budget was offset by a $120,000 contribution from the General Fund to the Sanitation Enterprise Fund to provide for dedicated pressure washing services on Lincoln Road from Washington Avenue to Collins Avenue, based on the recommendation of the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee at its July 11, 2025 Budget Briefing; and WHEREAS, the $120,000 reallocation was made at the request of Commissioner Tanya K. Bhatt, as she had not hired a second legislative aide at the time; and WHEREAS, the Administration has confirmed that the Public Works Department has identified other funding sources to cover the dedicated pressure washing on Lincoln Road for the remainder of FY 2026; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Tanya K. Bhatt has expressed a desire to hire a second legislative aide to better serve the public, as previously authorized by the Mayor and City Commission pursuant to Resolution No. 2025-33470, which approved an enhancement of support services for Commissioners who had only one legislative aide, with a fiscal impact not to exceed $120,000 per Commissioner. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby directing the City Administration to prepare a Fiscal Year 2026 budget amendment to reallocate funding of approximately eighty thousand dollars ($80,000), representing a pro -rated amount for the remaining eight months of FY 2026, from the Sanitation Enterprise Fund to the Office of the Mayor and City Commission to enable Commissioner Tanya K. Bhatt to hire a second legislative aide, as previously approved and authorized by the mayor and city commission pursuant to Resolution No. 2025-33470.
