A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE
ADMINISTRATION TO ALLOCATE FUNDING, IN AN AMOUNT
NOT TO EXCEED $120,000 FROM THE 2025 YEAR-END
SURPLUS, FOR THE DESIGN AND INSTALLATION IN LUMMUS
PARK OF A REPLICA OF THE CITY'S RAINBOW CROSSWALK
UTILIZING PAVERS SALVAGED FROM THE MUCH-BELOVED
RAINBOW CROSSWALK IN THE ART DECO DISTRICT
REMOVED BY THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION, AND WAIVING, BY 5/7TH VOTE, THE
REQUIREMENT IN SECTION 2-14(D)(1)a OF THE CITY CODE TO
REFER ANY AGENDA ITEMS HAVING A FISCAL IMPACT IN
EXCESS OF $75,000 TO THE FINANCE AND ECONOMIC
RESILIENCY COMMITTEE.
WHEREAS,the City of Miami Beach has long celebrated diversity, inclusion, and the
contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community to the cultural and civic life of the City; and
WHEREAS, the much-beloved rainbow crosswalk previously located at the
intersection of Ocean Drive and Twelfth Street in the City's Art Deco District served as a
visible and symbolic representation of these values; and
WHEREAS,the Florida Department of Transportation recently removed the rainbow
crosswalk, and the pavers used in its construction were salvaged by the City; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wish to preserve the legacy and
symbolism of the rainbow crosswalk by repurposing the salvaged pavers into a permanent
replica of the crosswalk in Lummus Park, a location of historical and cultural significance;
and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission further wish to allocate a portion of the
2025 year-end surplus, not to exceed $120,000, to fund the design, construction, and
installation of the replica, and to waive, by 5/7th vote, the requirement in Section 2-
14(d)(1)a of the City Code to refer any agenda items having a fiscal impact in excess of
$75,000 to the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby direct the Administration to allocate funding, in an amount not to
exceed $120,000 from the 2025 year-end surplus, for the design and installation in
Lummus Park of a replica of the City's Rainbow Crosswalk utilizing pavers salvaged from
the much-beloved Rainbow Crosswalk in the Art Deco District removed by the Florida
Department of Transportation, and Waiving, by 5/7th vote, the requirement in Section 2-
14(D)(1)a of the City Code to refer any agenda items having a fiscal impact in excess of
$75,000 to the Finance And Economic Resiliency Committee.
