Groundbreaking Set for Miami Beach Softball Field
— The event will be held at Flamingo Park on Friday, March 28 —
Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach will break ground on an upgraded softball field
and modern amenities at Flamingo Park in the city’s South Beach neighborhood on Friday,
March 28 at 9 a.m. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at Flamingo Park, please
enter from Michigan Avenue near 13 Street. The field is open to the public and used by Miami
Beach Senior High School’s Lady Hi Tides softball team for home games and practice.
“As someone who played baseball and spent countless hours on the field, I know how crucial it
is for athletes to have top-quality facilities to support their development and success,” said
Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “The Flamingo Park softball field is one of the most
widely used by young women in our city. With the Lady Hi Tides having an exceptional season,
they deserve nothing less than a top-tier field to continue their success.”
Funded by the 2018 General Obligation Bond approved by Miami Beach voters, the project will
transform the Andy Diamond softball field into a premier recreational space with upgraded
facilities, improved field conditions and enhanced spectator areas. The $6.4 million project also
includes upgraded field drainage, new artificial turf, upgraded dugouts and bleachers as well as
taller fencing and netting, updated lighting, landscaping and new concrete sidewalks.
Construction on the softball field is expected to start in March and be completed in
approximately 10 months. In addition to the softball field, other renovations in progress include
the Flamingo Park Lodge and three new lighted pickleball courts. Construction of a butterfly
garden is also scheduled to begin later this year.
